Farenas caught the attentions of boxing aficionados around the world when he fought the unbeaten Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa and after that fight his name was included among the best boxers in the world although he was defeated.
In a sports article written by our fellow boxing sportswriter Rich Mazon of Philboxing, his manager-promoter Gerry Peñalosa was quoted as saying that “Farenas might fight (on) March 30 in the Rios-Alvarado card in Vegas,” Gerry Peñalosa stated.
During Farenas fight against Gamboa, the 28-year-old fighter put up a gallant and entertaining fight against the much-heralded boxer, he was able to rebound from previous knocked down and punished the Cuban boxer in the ninth round with his own version of solid knocked down but it was enough and he losses in an impressive fashion.
