Japeth Aguilar’s name was not included in the list of names being called by respective NBA teams when the training camps opened last October 1, 2012. He was not included in the roster of any NBA team which put the Filipino basketball lovers disappointed.
Although he was not included in the final roster of an NBA Team despite his higher chances after he was invited by some top teams such as the San Antonio Spurs and the New Orleans Hornets to name a few.
After his failure of making it to the big league, Aguilar put his focus right now on his chances with the NBA Development League or the NBA D-League.
According to one of his agent, Chris McGarry, they are currently in the process of trying their luck in the NBA D-League. The former Ateneo Blue Eagles and Western Kentucky Hilltopper have already succeeded of getting notice in the big league after Japeth was given a chance to show off his skills in front of NBA Scouts.
Japeth Aguilar have to improve his basketball style if he wants to make it to the big league. Although not included in the final rooster, Aguilar is now considered as one of the prospects in the big league.
Last September his name was included in the top searched basketball player in the world ranking by Rotoworld.com. He conqured the no. 2 spot only behind NBA Superstar Dwight Howard.
Despite Aguilar’s failure of getting an invitation, the former Gilas member was not disappointed with his current situation. According to Aguilar which was quoted as saying that “I’m still going to do the same routine,” Aguilar stated right after a workout with Santa Cruz Warriors of the D-League.
He adds further that “I’m going to keep working hard everyday. The D-League is what I’m aiming for right now. There’s no disappointment.” Aguilar stated.
Japeth Aguilar is positive and he hope to be included in the final roster of the NBA D-League to honed his skills further in preparation for another NBA pursuit.
Aguilar currently worked our with a D-League team based in the West Coast last September 29, last Sunday he was invited by the Santa Cruz Warriors, the D-League affiliate of the Golden State Warriors to participate in an open tryouts.
The only Filipino player and possibly the first Filipino player to make it to the NBA, Japeth Aguilar is still optimistic on his journey towards the Big League.
