The Smart Gilas Pilipinas finally made it to the semi-finals of the 2012 FIBA Asia Cup after they successfully demolished the determined Chinese Taipei National Basketball Team during their Quarterfinals game on September 20, 2012 with the final score at 75-68.
The Philippines will face tomorrow one of their strongest opponent in the competition, the mighty Iranian National Basketball Team who successful won against Uzbekistan on the other Quarterfinals match-up.
Smart Gilas have successfully made an impressive offensive attacked which they started in the second quarter and never looked back although the Taiwanese were able to come closer against Smart Gilas.
The Philippine National Basketball Team had a balanced scoring led by Marcus Douthit with a total of 19 points and 18 rebounds, Gary David had a total of 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Ranidel de Ocampo contributed with 10 points, Tenorio and Fonacier scored a total of 9 points each, Chan and Dillinger have 5 points apiece, Norwood had 4 points.
The Philippines was challenged by the Chinese Taipei hotshots, the Chinese-American Creighton who scored a total of 21 points pouring out 5 three-pointers for Taiwan. He was supported by Lin with 12 points, Chen added with 11, Wu had 6, Chang and Lee had 3 points each.
