Smart Gilas landed in the final four in the fourth FIBA Asia Cup but they were eliminated in their quest to secure an outright spot in the upcoming FIBA Asia Championship after the Philippines suffered a back-to-back losses and settled for fourth place.
The Philippines was defeated by the Qataris who were determined to make it to the next year’s FIBA Asia Championship with the final score at 63-79 in favor of Qatar.
Marcus Douthit led the Philippine attacked although he suffered from a sprained ankle during the last 2 minutes of the first half when he landed badly on the floor and was attended immediately by medical personnel. He scored with a total of 17 points and 1o rebounds to led the Philippines.
Gary David also made an impressive pouring out a total of15 points but was not enough to repulsed the attacked and the hot hands of the Qataris from the three-point area which hurts the Philippines especially during the final fourth quarter of the match-up.
Jarred Dillinger also added with a total of 12 points for the Philippines while Norwood added with 10 points, De Ocampo struggled with 3 points together with Fonacier who scored 3 points as well. LA Tenorio was unable to sparked as he was able to provide only with a mere 2 points for Smart Gilas.
In the Qatari side, Mohmmed made an imporessive perfomance with a total of 17 points, Johnson added with 16 points, Abdi scored with 14 points, big man Saeed had 10 points, Dauoud had 7 Salem and El Hadary contributed with 7 and 5 points respectively.
