One of the most hated fights in the boxing arena for the year 2012 will finally be on our way as Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. face-off with his toughest rival in the person of Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez for the World Middleweight Championship.

The 37-year-old Sergio Martinez has fought a total of 369 rounds since turning pro in 1997 when he was 22 years old. He was more than 11 years older than his opponent. Considered as one of the top 3 pound for pound combatants in boxing who was also known as one of the most intelligent pugilist.

Boxing analysts put Martinez as one of the best overall fighter in the boxing world next to Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather and Andre Ward, the only problem of Martinez was age who slowly take a tool on his boxing speed and body movement but his experienced in boxing proved to be on the rise.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on the other hand was undefeated at an early age of 26, he conquered already the Middleweight Division with an impressive 46 wins, 0 defeat and 1 draw with a total of 32 Knock-outs.

Chavez Jr. was bon on Mexico, stands at 6’0,” has a reach of 73,” although he was successful enough but there are some critics who said that the champion was untested yet by a real opponent who will make a run for his money.

To win the biggest fight of his career, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. must be able to negate Maravilla’s movement with a heavy body attack when in close. He absolutely must be able to anticipate Sergio’s lateral movement and cut off the ring effectively to land punches. He has to apply intelligent pressure by using feints and head movement and not just try to come straight ahead.
